The Society of Our Lady of Lourdes operates a full policy for Safeguarding which has been approved by the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency.
SOLL will continue its long-established policy of maintaining a Pilgrimage Incident Log held by the Senior Nurse in the nurse’s station in the Accueil. This will be accessible to the Senior Nurse and those acting as Pilgrimage Directors.
All Doctors, Nursing and Carer personnel as well as Helpers (new and old) will have to undergo a DBS check and the issue date will be recorded.
SOLL is unable to accept portability from other spheres.
Please note that all previous Helpers – whose duties are restricted to pushing wheelchairs and assistance in the restaurant only will be required to undergo a basic DBS check which SOLL will arrange.
All new helpers which in the wider context also encompasses Priests, Deacons, Chaplains are required to provide acceptance by a sponsor known and acceptable to the Society and also undergo a DBS check which SOLL will arrange.
All helpers will be required to sign that they have read the SOLL guidance (to be provided) before they are issued with their name badge and handbook.
A training session for new pilgrimage helpers will be conducted at the pre-pilgrimage Joint Helpers' Meeting (details to be provided) and also in Lourdes.
The Society will accept equivalence and reciprocity of Safeguarding processes where this exists with comparable bodies overseas who are also part of the global Catholic church with therefore common universal requirements and objective.
The Society’s safeguarding responsibilities apply during the duration of the pilgrimage only.
